“…Upright Bass, Fiddle, and Acoustic Guitar doesn’t normally conjure images of drinking, sex, and rock n’ roll – but that’s what you’ll find with Dustin Jones and The Rising Tide” – North Country Entertainment
Hailing from Sault Ste Marie Canada, Dustin Jones (Vocals, Guitar), Mikey Hawdon (Drums), and brothers Sheldon (Fiddle) and Marshall Jaaskelainen (Upright Bass) make up this self-proclaimed “Drunkabilly” band. The brothers, both from the popular country band The Wild Turkeys, bring a unique Celtic Country musical style, along with vocal styles reminiscent of The Beach Boys, to Dustin’s unforgettable raunchy Punk Rock singing and songwriting prowess. Prior to starting this band in 2007 Dustin was known for his punk rock band The Inner City Surfers. The collaboration of these two very different bands that now form Dustin Jones & The Rising Tide is something truly unique and amazing. Dustin says “playing with these boys is like having angels for singers”. The new album “Whiskey Will Be Our Sun” (Tidal Records/High4 Records) kicks off with an acapella tune entitled “Rise Up” that confirms this claim of grace.
This is the kind of band that, already do and will forever, spend their life on the road. “If I’m not on tour I start to feel kinda crazy! So I stay on tour.” says Sheldon “I need to play. Every night. Period!” adds his younger brother Marshall “It is way too much fun playing with ALL of my brothers in the band.” They are currently on tour in support of April 2011’s release “Whiskey Will Be Our Sun“.
Last summer a videographer friend of the band tagged along for 2 weeks traveling and living with DJRT while on The Van’s Warped Tour 2010. This road trip has recently become the newest video for the guys. The video was made for the punky-country-rock-beachboys-infused song “Alright”. The stunning footage gives an honest glimpse into what it takes to be on the road with this band of drunken punk cowboys. It is also a great look at what Dustin Jones and The Rising Tide do best, play live music for their fans!
The incredible live performance this band owns continues onto the album itself. Capturing the way a band sounds live, in a sometimes stale, Studio setting, can be a difficult thing to do. Capturing that feel is precisely what this band has done. Sticking to their roots, the band was determined to make the album (engineered by Dustin at Tidal Studios) as live as possible. Dustin explains, “I am really not into all the Auto Tune shit. Why not sing it great? That’s what we did. What you hear on this record is The Tide! And nothing but The Tide! 100%!” Dustin Jones and The Rising Tide’s “Whiskey Will Be Our Sun” is a collection of 10 heartfelt and fun keg tapping tracks plus another 4 bonus tracks. The band has stated that this is their most honest and the absolute best collection of songs they have ever written and recorded.
