West Midlands park where cyclists are ‘aggressive’

A park in the West Midlands is being blighted by unsavory dirt bikers who are driving in an “aggressive and anti-social” manner, police say. West Midlands Police say Stevens Park in Wollescote, Stourbridge, is a “known hotspot” for off-road bikers.

It comes as the force launched a crackdown on the problem taking place in the Dudley borough. Five bikes were seized in the past week, which had been “recklessly crammed onto streets and green spaces”, the force said.

A spokesman said: “As well as confiscating the bikes, we have issued warnings to bikers that we will take further action if they are caught doing the same thing again. As well as taking direct action, we are also spreading the word to the community that we will not tolerate anti-social off-road cycling and are asking residents to play their part in preventing this by letting us know where and when it happens.”

Officers recently attended Wollescote Park alongside officers from Dudley Council where posters were put up in an attempt to clamp down on the problem and encourage people to report off-road bikers. Additional signs are planned for parks elsewhere in the neighborhood in the coming weeks.

This is the information the police are looking for:

  • The name and address of the owner of the dirt bike
  • Where is the bike stored?
  • A description of the bike, including colors.
  • When and where the bike is used, including days, times and routes

Neighborhood policing officer PC Jess Impey said: “We have been working hard to tackle dirt bikes carelessly riding in our streets, parks and other spaces as we know this behavior disturbs and sometimes even scares residents . Thanks to great efforts. between my colleague Sergeant John Norgrove and his neighborhood team, several bikes have recently been seized in the Lye area.
