Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to sell his stake in the club after failing to land big signings

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ready to sell Nice after failing to sign one of their players for the Red Devils.

Ratcliffe promised to take United back to the pinnacle of world football when he joined the club as co-owner. As a United fan, he’s used to seeing them shine in all competitions, but that hasn’t been the case lately.

Last season, while winning the FA Cup, the Red Devils failed spectacularly in the Premier League – their worst eighth place finish in the history of the competition.

As such, Ratcliffe has his work cut out for him to take United back to the top.

After some new board members have been introduced, the next step is to make some big signs.

Ratcliffe was eyeing one from Nice – the other club he owns – to plug a gap in defense created by the departure of Raphael Varane.

Indeed, he knows a lot about centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo and felt he would be a solid addition to United.

But after advanced talks for the defender, UEFA essentially blocked the move due to Ratcliffe owning both and both playing in the Europa League next season.

Indeed, the transfer between the parties would have violated one of the rules of the governing body.

Ratcliffe prepares to sell after failed signing

And with that comes a huge decision about Ratcliffe’s future with one of those clubs.

Football Insider claim that after failing to sign Todibo, the United co-owner is ready to sell his stake in Nice.

So he doesn’t want to be restricted by the rules of multi-club ownership.

And having just bought United, who are clearly the biggest brand in world football, he seems to want to prioritize taking them forward.

With the process of selling the club likely to take some time, United are unlikely to sign Todibo any time soon.

But once Ratcliffe is released from his Nice stake, he could pursue any of their players.

And since he’s been the owner since 2019, he’ll know which of their assets could become stars in the future.
