Wigan Warriors injury update on Kruise Leeming, Jake Wardle

Wigan Warriors manager Matt Peet has confirmed that Kruise Leeming and Jake Wardle suffered ankle injuries in the 36-0 win over London Broncos.

Hooker Leeming played around 25 minutes after coming off the bench but left the action in the early stages of the second half following a tackle on London striker Emmanuel Waine in which the Papua New Guinea international was sin-binned.

Wardle, meanwhile, left the field with about five minutes remaining with the center blowing out his ankle.

“I think we’ve got two more ankle (injuries), him (Leeming) and Jake Wardle,” Peet said in his post-match press conference.

“The challenge with Kruise, I don’t think there’s any intention in it, but when you see it, you know it. He talked about trying to escape, but I don’t think there’s a chance.

“Jake rolled his ankle. He’s had a few more ankle problems so hopefully he’s good.”

Super League will now have a week off due to the international break, with England playing France in Toulouse next Saturday.

Peet confirmed his side, who won the Challenge Cup at Wembley two weeks ago, have taken a well-deserved time off before regrouping for the second half of the Super League campaign.

Peet added: “Probably every team feels the same but when you get to a final you don’t have weekends off, the World Club Challenge was obviously a big event but I think this is an important period for us to refresh. correctly.

“We will rest, take some time off: all of us, players and staff. I think it’s important, it’s been a busy year so far and the players are producing, so it’s important when you get a chance to just let them refresh and rejuvenate and take some time off, engage in their families away from here and then when they come back in it will be all systems.

“Obviously we’ve got another busy period coming up, it’s going to take us all the way to October, so I think we’re all ready for that, we know what it’s going to take to finish the year well and we’re excited about it. but it was always planned that this would be a time for rest.”
