Dozens of objections to Leicestershire children’s shelter on ‘luxury’ estate.

A children’s home planned for a ‘luxury’ Leicestershire estate has so far had more than 100 objections. The scheme, by Dr Al-Akaidi, would see two houses in Bosworth Way, Leicester Forest East, converted into one to accommodate four children in care. The details are in a planning application seeking permission to change the use of the homes from residential to a children’s home.

Leicester Forest East Parish Council lodged an objection with Blaby District Council (BDC) on behalf of local residents. It is one of 117 objections filed so far. The parish council said all the houses on the estate had covenants preventing the change of use from domestic family homes to businesses. He added that residents bought homes and moved to the property because of its “small, family-friendly and upscale” nature.

The planning application states that the children would be aged between four and 11 and there would be four members of staff at the home at any one time. In all, there would be eighteen employees and one visitor would be allowed at a time, the documents state. There would be six parking spaces.

The parish council’s objection can be read online. The county council told LeicestershireLive that details of the other objections were not available. The parish council’s statement said: “(We) object to the proposed application for conversion to a children’s care home. While the council recognizes the need for care homes, we have our concerns about the type, location and (effect) on neighboring areas. the house and the inhabitants.

“We do not agree that the middle of a small estate is adequate. Blaby District Council should work with the applicant to secure more suitable accommodation in a suitable location. The Parish Council has been contacted by many residents objecting to this planning application and as a council we support residents with their objections and ours.

“The houses on this property, built by Taylor Wimpey, all have covenants preventing the change of use from domestic family homes to businesses. Blaby District Council should support residents in complying with the covenants and not traveling on their feet (sic).

“Residents bought and moved into this property because of its nature. Small. Family based and upscale. The application (sic) is detrimental to all residents who for many years have enjoyed living in a quiet residential area with community spirit.
