Headingley Stadium was filled with emotion last night as the Rugby League world came together to pay tribute to Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow. The stadium was packed almost to capacity as fans turned out to pay their own tribute to one of Leeds’ greatest players.

As part of the build-up to the game, a number of Burrow’s former teammates paid tribute to Burrow, as approximately 80 of Burrow’s former teammates attended the game to celebrate Burrow’s life.

Players such as Danny Buderus and Ali Lauiti’iti flew in from Australia to join the tributes, with Buderus giving an inspirational speech to the Rhinos before the game, which Jamie Jones Buchanan highlighted as a key factor in the Rhinos’ brilliant performance.

Former Leeds legend Keith Senior also reflected on his relationship with Rob Burrow in the build-up to the game and the moment that will live long in his memory.

Speaking as part of the build-up to the game, which was broadcast on Sky Sports, Senior reflected on the joint testimony for Burrow and Jones Buchanan. The game, also at Headingley, saw a number of the Rhinos’ golden generation don a Rhinos shirt for the last time in solidarity with Burrow.

Senior believes the memory summed up all the best qualities of the Rugby League community, showing how people will come together to support one of their own. He also believes it was the perfect demonstration of the high esteem in which everyone held Burrow. senior said:

“Yes, I think it will remain in the memory of many people’s hearts.

“He represented the rugby community, not just the teams that played there, but the rugby community as a whole. You went out into the stadium and there were Leeds fans, Bradford fans, fans of all the teams and they were all gathered in their shirts. I think that represents everything good about Rob, everything about him.

“I had to come off a knee injury and to be honest, playing in a game like that would have been quite difficult for me, but I had to do it, not just for Rob, not just for the whole the world, and for me. that submission.

“It made it even more special because of the occasion because it was also Rob’s last game and to share that with him, I think it will go into everyone’s hearts.”
