A competition is being held to find who has the best beard and mustache in Cornwall

PEOPLE who stroke their beards wondering if they have the best they don’t have to wonder about.

A competition for the best beard and mustache takes place at The Bearded Brewery in St Mawgan on Saturday 29th June.

The event is part of a series of small ‘Road To The Brits’ competitions taking place in Devon and Cornwall this year. These are designed to spread the word and enable competitors to train for the ‘Honest Amish’ British Beard and Mustache Championships which take place in Plymouth on Saturday 12th October.

The categories for the Road To The Brits competitions are big beard, short beard, partial beard, moustache, freestyle beard or moustache, and handmade beard or moustache, and children are also welcome.

Road To The Brits events and the ‘Honest Amish’ British Beard and Mustache Championships will raise funds for Devon Air Ambulance and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Clair Wellsbury-Nye, one of the organisers, said: “If you’ve never heard of a beard and mustache competition before, here’s your chance to find out what it’s all about.

“And if you’ve wanted to get into one but weren’t sure about standing in front of a crowd and talking into a microphone – here’s your chance to try it out in front of a friendly crowd.

“To be honest, it’s always a friendly crowd, no matter the size of the event.

“It’s a really welcoming community where we promote charity fundraising, mental health, making friends and promoting positive male role models.”

“It’s not just ‘biggest beard wins’, there are different categories for different sizes and styles of beards and moustaches.”

Mike Wellsbury-Nye, who also helps organize the event, added: “You don’t need to take part in one of these Road To The Brits events before you can compete in the British Championships.

“There’s nothing formal like qualifiers or selections, it’s all just a bit of fun and an excuse to get together and raise some money for the charity pot.”

“So if you fancy a fun afternoon raising money for good causes, head down to The Bearded Brewery in St Mawgan.

“The team will be there from 1pm, competitor registration is from 2pm and judging starts at 3pm. Winners will be announced by 6pm, followed by live music from 7pm. There are no advance tickets, you just turn up and make a donation to the charity bowl as your entry fee.

“If you can’t make it to The Bearded Brewery, the team will also be running other Road To The Brits events in Devon and Cornwall this year.”

Future dates and venues will be posted on the website at bbmchamps.co.uk and on Instagram and Facebook at @bbmchamps
