Six new eccentric areas for Glastonbury 2024

Glastonbury Music Festival welcomes six new areas for 2024.

Worthy Farm Festival returns from Wednesday 26th June to Sunday 30th June. Glastonbury is a British staple, legendary for its iconic Pyramid Stage, nasty camping conditions and the biggest artists from around the world.

This year the festival is changing things up with six new areas for guests to enjoy. Some spaces are reimagined old favorites, while others are completely new concepts for 2024.

Below are the six new areas for Glastonbury 2024:

Tree stage

The Tree Stage is a brand new space in the wooded corner of the festival, built on the Woodsies outdoor venue.

While the heart of the area, the Woodsies Main Stage, maintains its energetic lineup, the Tree Stage focuses on a more relaxed experience.

The site is “set under a canopy of oak decor”, with the intention of “zeroing in on the immersive, ambient and experimental”.

It will be open from midday on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but the scene is set to come alive at night after the headliners finish.

Terminal 1

A “repurposed airport” Terminal 1 lands in the festival’s Williams Green area. The line-up includes global acts including St Paul’s Carnival in Bristol alongside its London counterpart, Notting Hill Carnival.

The area is scheduled to be open starting Wednesday. According to its posters, guests must “successfully answer a UKGOV citizenship test question”.

Dragon-fly

Arcadia is one of the most popular venues for late night revelers looking to hang out after the main shows are over and is well known for its otherworldly sets.

For 2024, the team behind the scenes present the Dragonfly – an enormous biomechanical creature made from an adapted Royal Navy helicopter.

The intention is to repurpose “a weapon of destruction into a unifying symbol. For young festival goers, Arcadia has another brand new area, The Alchemists’ Playground.

In collaboration with constructive play specialists Woodland Tribe, the children’s space will offer ‘workshops and creative adventure’.

This year marks Glastonbury’s inaugural venue in South Asia. The arrivals were fully realized by a South Asian team from a number of different cultural institutions.

A description of the new area, located in Shangri-La, describes visitors entering through “a portal to an alien jungle planet, immersed in an audio-visual world encoded in solar punk, carnivorous plants, cyborg beasts and space pirates.”

They announce, “The space bridges the nostalgia of futurism, a sensory feast of bright lights and colors, remixing the worlds of pulp sci-fi classics in a newly redefined South Asian aesthetic.”

Scissors

Scissors is the newest addition, which aims to be “a totally delicious queer place where anything can happen.”

Visitors can get a haircut, relax in the beer garden or enjoy some free time watching a movie. However, nightfall brings “a twilight setlist that fills Kiki’s nightclub, where kaleidoscopic walls will keep you dancing until dawn.”

It’s open from Wednesday, with the action starting at 1pm and running all night.

Assembly

A reimagining of the former WOW scene, Assembly is the newest arrival in the Silver Hayes dance music paradise. The stage will become the first indoor venue in the area, which could be a relief if the weather takes a turn.

Beyond music, Silver Hayes will also welcome Room, a “wellness space featuring sound baths, breathing, guided meditation, yoga and other activities.”
