Rain-soaked Leicestershire – these are the areas that received the most rain last year

The places in Leicestershire where it rained the most last year have been revealed in a new report, with Castle Donington topping the list.

Total rainfall for Castle Donington was 1002mm last year, while Ashby-de-la-Zouch had 923mm of total rainfall and Shepshed came third with 912mm. Lutterworth was the lowest rainfall area in Leicestershire with 758mm last year.

A month’s worth of rain fell in Leicestershire during the five-day Storm Babet, making it the wettest October on record, local weatherman Phil Morrish confirmed.

At the time, Phil said: “The rainfall totals for the week (Monday 16 October to Sunday 22 October) were truly outstanding! Between Wednesday and Sunday, 60 to 80mm of rain fell in Leicestershire and Rutland. This is more than the usual total monthly average. of 59 mm.

And this year looks set to be no different. Flooding has affected parts of Leicester and Leicestershire in the first five months of this year. Alerts have been in place throughout the year, including last month when the government’s flood service issued alerts for Leicester city tributaries, the Lower Soar River and urban waterways in Loughborough.

As recently as April, two people had to be rescued from a submerged car on one of Leicestershire’s most famous flooded bridges. Heavy rains have sparked alerts across the country, with warnings put in place by authorities.
