Jay Slater’s father’s heartbreaking six-word plea as he visits Tenerife

The father of missing teenager Jay Slater visited the search site last night with tears in his eyes, making an emotional plea: “I just want the boy back”. Jay’s father Warren Slater, 58, was comforted by his other son Zak at the scene in Masca, not far from where the young apprentice bricklayer went missing after 8am on Monday.

As Jay’s search mission reached its sixth day, Warren and Zak demonstrated a united stand with nine of Jay’s friends in these heartbreaking circumstances. In a show of determination, it was the first time Jay’s family braved the search area, with Warren and Zak, 24, leaning on each other for support as were inspecting ongoing efforts.

The family’s emotions were palpable as they walked around the holiday rental where Jay was last seen, with both men clearly fighting back tears.

While Jay’s mum Debbie, 55, who is separated from Warren, found herself unable to face the disturbing sight, saying: ‘I’m exhausted. I’m still full of hope. I don’t feel negative yet. I know there are five. days.”

“It’s not just that they said no. I don’t know how it was today because I was advised to stay away because I would just break myself. My boy could be out there somewhere. We are just an ordinary boy from a small town in Lancashire.

“I’ve been in touch with him while he’s in Tenerife. He was just on holiday, saved up and looking forward. I haven’t slept in five days. My brain isn’t working well and I’m tired and exhausted.”

Debbie also hit out at online trolls and conspiracy theorists targeting her and her family. She said: “People keep asking on social media ‘why aren’t they up there?’ and my name is the new Karen Matthews. I just can’t handle it.”
