Nottingham Trent Nav pub apologizes for ‘unfortunate incident’ after Steve Cooper gets Leicester City job

Staff at a popular Nottingham pub have apologized if anyone was offended by an “unpleasant incident” at the venue days after Steve Cooper was confirmed as Leicester City’s new boss. Cooper’s appointment was confirmed on a three-year deal with the Foxes on Thursday (June 20).

During Cooper’s time on Trentside, he led the Reds back into the Premier League for the first time in 23 years. He proved to be a hugely popular figure due to his connection with the fans and understanding of the city, and kept the Reds in the top flight during their first year back in the division.

But news of his appointment at the King Power Stadium, where Leicester are East Midlands rivals Forest, led to an “incident” at The Trent Navigation pub on Meadow Lane. The pub, home to the Big Shed fanzine, posted a statement on Saturday (June 22) saying: “We are aware of the video circulating online which appears to show an unpleasant incident last night but we thought it important to we take control of the narrative and show the footage in its entirety so you can make up your own mind about the matter.

“We pride ourselves on being Nottingham’s original, most authentic and only Nottingham born and bred independent fanzone and we take things like this very seriously.

“For those of a nervous disposition or with minors in the room, we urge you to consider stopping now.” The quiet video shows a Trent Navigation staff member addressing a portrait on the wall of Steve Cooper saying: “I thought we were friends. I believed in everything we went through together, no matter what. I know we’d break up, it’s over, but we could always talk to each other.

“But then, you went and did that and I’m sorry, you’re out of here.” Cooper’s portrait is then taken from the wall and thrown into a storage room. The Trent Navigation added on social media: “From everyone at The Trent Navigation, we sincerely apologize for any offense caused.”
