Former Birmingham City boss Wayne Rooney reveals how son drove £3,000 golf cart into lake

Wayne Rooney shared a rather expensive incident where one of his sons and a £3,000 golf cart unexpectedly plunged into a lake on their family property.

The former Birmingham City boss moved into the plush six-bedroom pad in December 2021, which boasts two man-made fishing lakes on its sprawling 40-acre grounds.

Rooney, who installed the lakes, also treated his brood to a golf cart for easy movement around the vast property. However, during a chat with Gary Neville on The Overlap, he revealed that the vehicle had a wet end thanks to one of his boys.

Filming at Rooney’s home, Neville asked: “Are you going swimming in that lake?” Rooney’s response was a cautionary tale: “I wouldn’t. I had a golf buggy. The day I left for America as a manager.”

He detailed the water adventure, saying: “I went to the airport and one of the kids went straight in,” the Mirror reports.

Rooney’s time in the United States saw him at the helm of MLS side DC United from July 2022, returning from a previous spell as a player.
