Leeds United are close to selling Marc Roca to Real Betis for good, ruling out yet another player who was hit with a loan clause in 23/24.

If the 49ers wanted a challenge when they took over the club after relegation last summer, they certainly got one with the way they inherited the club from Andrea Radrizzani.

Several loan clauses have hampered the club in their attempts to establish an ambitious start to life in the Championship, but the same will not be the case this time around.

Leeds close to selling Marc Roca for good this summer, Harrison to leave on loan

Reports in Spain emerged this week saying a deal was being agreed between Leeds and Real Betis over the permanent transfer of Marc Roca.

His loan spell ended this summer, but Roca was able to leave the club on loan again with the same clause present in the contract.

However, El Chiringuito said the Sevilla club are closing in on a permanent deal with a contract until 2028 for Roca:

In addition, Jack Harrison’s loan clause is set to be triggered again, with Everton looking to secure his services for another season in the Premier League – according to The Athletic.

Paraag Marathe’s summer transfer position rings true for Leeds

Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe has previously stressed that the club will be in a better position going forward with the return of these loan players.

He said this (via The Athletic):

“Fortunately, we don’t have as many of these situations as last year. We are also not in a race against time. At this time last year we were still 12 days away from completing the deal to take over the club.

“Team chemistry is important – which players fit in versus which don’t. Last year it was hard to deal with and it’s not as hard anymore. We don’t sit back like the passive club. I’m not willing to admit that there will or won’t be a profit for certain players.”

Already, it looked like Leeds were much stronger, with only two arrivals this summer having such loan clauses, but Roca being sold reduces that to just one: Jack Harrison.

Leeds therefore gets revenue back into the club through these assets and strengthens our ability to attack the transfer market.

Long may it continue under the 49ers.
