Bradford City want Charlie Wyke after exit from Wigan Athletic

Bradford City are in talks with Charlie Wyke following his departure from Wigan Athletic, according to Patreon reporter Alan Nixon.

Bradford City are interested in luring the striker back to Valley Parade this summer on a free transfer. They are preparing for another year in League 2 next season and are on the lookout for new signings.

Wyke, 31, cut ties with Wigan Athletic at the end of last campaign after they decided not to extend his extension. His contract at the DW Stadium officially expires at the end of this month and he will weigh up his options at this point.

In this latest update on his situation from journalist Nixon on his Patreon page, the player is in talks about a potential return to the Bantams. He could be seen by Graham Alexander as someone to strengthen his attacking department.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Wyke was a hit during his time at Bradford City from 2017 to 2018 and scored 23 goals in 62 games in all competitions.

Luring him back to West Yorkshire would be a no-brainer and he would inject more experience into their ranks.

The North East-born man began his career at Middlesbrough and rose through his local side’s academy.

However, he never made a senior appearance for Boro and left permanently for Carlisle United after loan spells at the Riverside Stadium from Hartlepool United and AFC Wimbledon.

Wyke was sold by Bradford City to Sunderland and scored 42 times in 114 games for the Black Cats.

Wigan Athletic then welcomed him in 2021 and he spent time on loan at Rotherham United in the second half of last term.

Wyke have to decide if they would be willing to drop down to League Two, especially after playing in the Championship last season for the Millers.

Landing his signature would be a huge statement of intent from the Bantams. They will hope that they can get out of the fourth level as soon as possible.
