All flights have been canceled from two terminals at Manchester Airport

Passengers traveling through Manchester Airport today were affected by major disruption, with all flights canceled from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

There are also delays affecting Terminal 3.

The outage was caused by a “significant power surge” in the early hours of this morning which had a knock-on effect on systems.

Passengers due to travel today from T1 or T2 are advised not to go to the airport.

All flights from both terminals are canceled “until further notice”.

Those who have already checked in for their flights are expected to be able to travel, but may experience delays.

Manchester Airport managing director Chris Woodroofe has now released a video addressing the delays.

He said: “Firstly, my sincere personal apologies to every passenger who has been affected by what happened at Manchester Airport today.”

He went on to explain that a “big bit of power” this morning damaged “really key equipment” such as the baggage systems.

Chris continued: “So that means Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 couldn’t have planes departing today and therefore no arrivals because there’s no space to park those aircraft on the airfield.”

“It’s a very difficult situation,” he said. “I couldn’t regret it more.

“The good news is that we very much expect this to be recovered in the afternoon and evening, so we’re back to normal operations tomorrow.”

The latest statement from Manchester Airport said: “Manchester Airport was affected by a significant power outage in the early hours of this morning.

“Power has been restored, but the outage affected important systems, including boarding pass processing and baggage check, causing significant delays, particularly in Terminals 1 and 2.

“All flights from Terminals 1 and 2 are canceled until further notice and passengers due to travel from those terminals are advised not to come to the airport and stay in touch with their airlines.”
