Leeds United are keeping tabs on the striker who is currently playing under Jesse Marsch at the Copa America

Leeds United could be about to strengthen their ties with Jesse Marsch once again and sign a player currently working under Canada’s national team.

A new right-back, a replacement for Joe Rodon, cover at left-back, a new midfielder and possibly a new no. 10 are the areas Leeds must consider strengthening in the summer, but the priority must be the wings.

Leeds have already said goodbye to Jaidon Anthony, who returns to Bournemouth after a loan spell at Elland Road. Crysencio Summerville is expected to go with numerous clubs chasing the Dutchman.

Willy Gnonto is also expected to end his two-year spell at Leeds, with Nottingham Forest making a £16.9m bid to sign the Italy star. Ian Poveda’s contract is about to expire after a loan move away from the club.

A new winger is crucial then and Leeds could look to bring in a player working under Marsch right now:

Leeds sees a Canadian ace working with Jesse Marsch at the Copa America

Labeled ‘unstoppable’ by Preston captain Alan Browne, Liam Millar is a target for Leeds. The 24-year-old spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Preston from Swiss side FC Basel, where he has one year remaining on his contract.

That’s according to The Athletic, who say Leeds are tracking the winger ahead of representing Marsch’s new side Canada at the Copa America. They kick off this summer’s campaign on Tuesday night against Peru.

Last season at Deepdale, Millar had 10 goals in 35 Championship games, but Leeds fans will remember the torment he caused Archie Gray during a 2-1 win for the Lilywhites when Illan Meslier saw red .

Leeds face stiff competition in the race for Millar from Chris Wilder

Last week, a report by BBC Sport reporter Adam Oxley said Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United were closing in on a deal to sign Millar. Preston also want him, but a deal for the Basel ace is yet to be agreed.

Millar would be an excellent signing for any Premier League club, a player who has come through the ranks at Liverpool. But he managed just one game for the Reds, on loan at Kilmarnock and Charlton.

Since then, he has made 98 appearances for Basel and had a 23-goal haul, but now looks set to leave Basel for good and return to the Championship. Clearly, he left a lasting impression on Daniel Farke.
