Rupert Matthews, Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, announced the re-appointment of Rani Mahal as his deputy.

Rupert Matthews, who was re-elected in May this year, said that as his deputy, Rani Mahal had made a significant contribution to the work of his office since her appointment in 2022.

“Rani has taken the reins on several key issues in my first term and I have every confidence that he will do so again,” he said. “She has been central to our highly successful engagement program with parish councils and we have big plans to build on this in the future with other networks.

“In addition, I’m creating a new program that will allow me to hear directly from victims about the services they need from us. Rani will be a key figure in that area, which will also include control of our commissioned services.”

Rani Mahal added: “We have exciting new engagement plans with groups and individuals and I’m really excited to be a part of it. In this job, you get to meet so many different people and hear how they feel about the police service they have. then we can build on that information to really make a difference.”

Mr Matthews’ decision was approved at a confirmation hearing of the county’s police and crime commission earlier this week.
