General election 2024: the types of ID you can use to vote

For the first time in a UK general election, you will need photo ID to vote. And if you have questions about what type of ID is valid, we’re here to help.

You must know that the photo ID you present at the polling station is the original version. You cannot use a photo, phone picture or photocopy of your ID.

If you have not already received any of the identification forms listed below, you can still vote. However, you will need to apply for an electoral authority certificate. The deadline to do so is Wednesday 26 June at 5pm.

The general election takes place on Thursday, July 4. Votes will begin to be counted after polls close at 10pm, with results announced overnight, starting in the early hours of Friday morning (July 5). CoventryLive will be bringing you all the latest local and national general election news tonight, so join us on the home page.
