Sam Allardyce says he would take an interview for a job that would see him manage three Leeds players

Sam Allardyce has admitted he is set to interview for a job vacancy that would see him manage three Leeds United players as he looks for his next job after leaving Leeds.

Allardyce’s last job came at Elland Road, taking charge of Leeds for the final four games of the Premier League season but proving powerless to keep the Whites in the top flight and steer them away from relegation.

Leeds suffered defeats to Man City, West Ham and Tottenham while drawing against Newcastle in a game in which Patrick Bamford missed a penalty. Leeds have been in the second tier of English football ever since.

Meanwhile, Allardyce has been out of work since then. It has seen him miss an entire season of football but remains keen to stay in the game and has been asked to fill a new vacancy following a recent sacking.

Wales decided to move on without manager Rob Page after a 4-0 thrashing of Slovakia, a game in which Ethan Ampadu was named captain – shortly after Dan James missed a penalty to go to the Euros 2024.

Sam Allardyce is open to holding an interview for Wales as their next manager

Wales of course have Ampadu and James as well as Leeds teenager Charlie Crew. Joe Rodon and Connor Roberts are no longer Leeds players, having returned to parent clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley.

Becoming Wales boss would see Allardyce break into international football for the second time, managing England for one game. He told the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast that he would be open to an interview.

“We’ve had a couple of Welsh coaches. You never know if you will be shortlisted for an interview. I would always take an interview, I wouldn’t turn down an interview. A team that has done brilliantly in recent years.”

Who are the favorites to take over as Wales manager

Osian Roberts has just promoted Como to Serie A and he is the favorite to take over, while Craig Bellamy is in the running. Nathan Jones, a return for Chris Coleman and Rob Edwards have also been linked.

Wales will be in no rush to make a decision and could wait until after Euro 2024 to see if there are new managers available, with Wales springing into action in September.

It remains to be seen whether Allardyce has been mentioned by those making the decision on who to replace Page, but it would see him take over from Ampadu, James and the Crew if offered the role.
