“I was driving to Ipswich to visit my brother and I was pulled over by the police because they thought I had a pint of Guinness with me.

“Unbeknownst to them, it was just black iced coffee with foam on top – and it looked a lot like a Guinness.

“The policeman said to me, ‘Sir, when was the last time you had a drink?’ And I think he expected me to say “last night” or “this morning,” but my answer was “about nine or 10 years ago.” We both started laughing.”

Peter had to take a breathalyzer test, which he passed and revealed that the policeman told him to stop carrying his coffee in a pint glass.

He added: “(The officer) said to me, ‘Look, just a tip, don’t put your coffee in a pint glass and drive with it.’ Learned lesson.”

In the column, Peter also revealed that his teenage daughter Princess is now learning to drive as she turns 17 later this week – the legal age in Britain to hit the road – and promised her buy a car once it passes the test.
