Police searching for ‘machete attack’ in South Bristol

Police are still trying to piece together reports of a man armed with a machete chasing another man down a street in Knowle on Sunday night after local residents called 999, sparking a major police response.

Specialist firearms officers, dog handlers and the police drone unit descended on an area of ​​Knowle Park following the reports, which started coming in at around 6.20pm on Sunday 23 June.




Local residents reported seeing a man with a large knife – described by an eyewitness as ‘a machete’ – chasing another from a site near the Tesco store at the junction of Axbridge Road and Friendship Road, on part of Friendship Road. towards Wells Road and Redcatch Park. These reports are still largely unconfirmed as police have yet to find either the attacker or the victim.

By the time police got there, both men had left the scene and have not been located despite extensive searches of the area. On Monday morning, Avon and Somerset police said they believed they had identified the victim of the attack and were trying to find her to make sure she was OK and getting any treatment she needed.

Forensic teams have examined the scene of the incident, which was reported by local residents, and officers are carrying out house-to-house inquiries today, Monday 24 June.

In a statement issued by Avon and Somerset Police, a spokesman appealed for anyone who knows who was involved or saw what happened to get in touch.
