Princess Anne ‘injured by a horse’ and taken to hospital

Princess Anne was taken to hospital after suffering what are said to be minor injuries, apparently from being kicked by a horse’s head or legs. The Princess Royal is the eldest daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and the younger sister of King Charles III.

She is an accomplished equestrian who competed at the Montreal Olympics in 1976. The princess rode a horse during Trooping the Color on June 15.

The incident happened at her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire on Sunday, June 23, Buckingham Palace said. She is expected to make a “full and speedy recovery” after suffering a concussion.

Emergency services were called to the property and the princess was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. She is conscious and is expected to remain in hospital until the end of this week as a “precautionary measure for observation”, the palace added.

The BBC reports that the princess’ husband, Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, and her daughter Zara and son Peter were at the estate at the time. Her husband traveled with her to the hospital.

But it has been confirmed that he will miss the state banquet as part of the state visit by the Emperor and Empress of Japan, which will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, June 25.

The king “being kept closely informed”

A palace statement said: “The King has been kept closely informed and joins the entire royal family in sending the princess their deepest love and best wishes for a speedy recovery.”
