Expert urges Brits to sleep naked as hot weather approaches

An expert is urging Britons to ditch their nightgowns and embrace sleeping naked as temperatures soar. The mercury is expected to reach 30 degrees in some areas this week.

Those hot conditions pose a health risk, especially for the elderly or vulnerable, and can also disrupt sleep for many. However, the underwear specialists at Pour Moi suggest that removing your panties before bed could be the key to a cooler, more comfortable sleep.

They highlight several health benefits of sleeping without underwear, from increased comfort to feeling more liberated. Emma Woodrow, Underwear Buyer at Pour Moi, warns: “Sleeping in tight, uncomfortable underpants can lead to a number of health problems, including irritation, chafing, infections caused by bacterial build-up and unwanted odours.

“As the temperature rises, so does the likelihood of sweating in intimate areas, which can cause excess moisture and lead to infections. Plus, on these hot nights, comfortable underwear can leave you with marks or chafing, leading to discomfort in the morning.”

Emma offers three reasons to consider going commando at bedtime:.

  • Allows skin to breathe – During the summer, our intimate areas can be extra sweaty, so sleeping without underwear is a great way to allow your skin to recover after a day under several layers of clothing. Allowing air to flow around your intimate area can help reduce irritation, heat rash, or any other skin discomfort you may be experiencing.
  • Reduces the risk of infection and irritation – During hot nights, the intimate area may feel sweatier than normal, as more moisture is likely to accumulate if you wear tight underwear. By forgoing underwear, you can stay drier and have less risk of bacteria build-up, which means fewer infections.
  • More comfortable – Sleeping without underwear is much more comfortable for your skin. Your body won’t feel restricted by tight fabrics, and your skin will be free of any marks or irritation left behind by tight panties. If you usually feel constrained by tight clothing, sleeping naked can help you sleep better and have a more restful sleep.

Emma continued: ‘While it might feel comforting to wear underwear to sleep, you shouldn’t go to bed in anything too tight – this includes pyjamas. a loose, breathable fabric is essential to keep your skin happy.

“If you’re not used to sleeping naked, maybe give it a try this summer and see if you wake up feeling a little fresher and more comfortable. However, if the thought of sleeping isn’t for you, opting for a comfortable pair of cotton pants or pajama bottoms will be a much better option and help keep your skin happy.”
