West Brom are making contact with Birmingham target Josh Windass

West Brom have made contact with Sheffield Wednesday man Josh Windass over a potential summer deal amid interest from Birmingham City, according to the Birmingham World.

West Brom are gearing up for another season in the Championship this summer.

Carlos Corberan’s side finished in the top six last season but failed to get past Southampton in the play-offs, who eventually won promotion to the Premier League.

Sheffield Wednesday narrowly avoided relegation with Danny Rohl turning his fortunes around, while Birmingham City suffered relegation on the final day and prepare for League One football.

Windass, 30, made 25 league appearances for the Owls last season. He has scored six and assisted two from central midfield and has been a regular feature at Hillsborough since joining in 2020.

His performances have helped guide Sheffield Wednesday back to the second tier, but now it looks like an exit is on the cards.

Contract renewal talks appear to have stalled and it looks increasingly unlikely that he will sign a new deal this summer at Sheffield Wednesday.

Birmingham City have been interested in a deal for some time, but the Baggies recently swooped in and made contact with Windass’ representatives to gauge how interested he would be in a move to The Hawthorns.

Who is this?

THE TEST STARTS!

Fierce competition

The 30-year-old is a proven talent in the Football League.

The attacking midfielder can play multiple roles in the middle of the park and would be a useful addition for most clubs in the second and third tier.

West Brom will be fighting for promotion to the Premier League next season, while Birmingham City will be hoping to get out of League One at the first time of asking.

The prospect of top-flight football could be enough to tempt Windass into a move to West Brom this summer, as the experienced man is yet to experience that in his career.

However, it remains to be seen which club will win this race and is certainly one to watch.

Flying up

Rohl did an incredible job with the Owls last season.

The German boss has all the momentum in the world behind him at the moment and their business so far this summer has been promising.

Losing Windass would be a blow for them, but Sheffield Wednesday survived almost half of last season without him and it wouldn’t be the end of the world for their hopes of success next season.

The Owls are the team to watch at the moment as they could fly up the Championship table after coming so close to relegation last time out.
