Josh Windass’ future at Sheffield Wednesday

An emerging report from The Star says Championship clubs “remain interested” in signing Windass on a free transfer this summer.

The same report adds that Birmingham City remain keen to sign former Rangers Windass, who looks “increasingly unlikely” to stay at Sheffield Wednesday beyond this month.

Windass joined Sheffield Wednesday on a permanent deal in the summer of 2020 after an initial loan spell with the club.

In 135 total appearances for the Owls, Windass scored 40 goals and claimed 17 assists; Most memorably, Windass scored the winning goal in the League One play-off final victory over Barnsley in 2023.

Danny Rohl must focus on a transfer target from Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday needed new strikers to come in this summer before any news of Windass’ departure became apparent.

Now, with his exit looking likely, the need for strikers in S6 becomes paramount. But Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday look set to face an uphill battle to sign key transfer target Ike Ugbo.

Las Palmas striker Sory Kaba has now been linked and the La Liga club have since signed a new striker, potentially opening the door for Kaba to leave this summer.

He now looks like an emerging target for Sheffield Wednesday this summer and Windass’ seemingly imminent departure could prompt the Owls to focus on a move for Kaba.

The former Cardiff City loanee proved his scoring ability in the second leg and could be a viable replacement for Windass.

However, Rohl will need more than Kaba in what promises to be a busy summer transfer window in S6.
