A West Midlands Police sergeant has been sacked over transgender comments

A West Midlands Police sergeant has been sacked for making “inappropriate and discriminatory comments” to a transgender officer. Sgt Andrew Grant was dismissed on Thursday, June 20, at a police hearing.

He was found to have breached professional standards, the force said. Sgt Grant was said to have made “totally inappropriate” comments about a transgender officer.

He was said to have “discredited” the police service with his comments.

In a statement, Deputy Chief Constable Scott Green said: “A sergeant was dismissed on June 20 following a misconduct hearing. The officer was found to have breached professional standards following inappropriate and discriminatory comments and behavior made towards a transgender officer.

“His actions were totally inappropriate and brought the police service into disrepute. The public rightly expect the highest standard of professionalism from our officers and staff and we are determined to ensure that those who breach these standards are held to account.”
