Birmingham Airport says ‘we’re not Alton Towers’ over queuing ideas

Stuck in delays at Birmingham Airport has been a problem in recent weeks. Passengers captured the moment as they stood in queues, some snaking out of the terminal building and under new “gazebo”-like structures on the carriageway, over the past month.

Some said they stayed for up to two hours, but this is something the airport has denied, reports Birmingham Live. However, the queues weren’t just outside, they were inside the building, as some tourists reported that it also happened while heading to the elevators to go up to the security area itself.

Not knowing what the situation is is something that is on people’s lips, so our sister site, BirminghamLive, asked BHX if they could put up signs/queue markers to give passengers an idea of how long it will take to release security from certain points in the queue “like at theme parks”.

While the airport did not address the question of why such information could not be provided, it said it was “somewhat different to Alton Towers”. A spokesman for the airport said: “The environment of an airport and the security sensitivities/requirements in place are somewhat different to the likes of Alton Towers.

“Getting on a plane and the time it takes to make sure everyone is going to be kept safe is different to getting on a rollercoaster and it should rightfully take longer.”

But when it comes to tail markers, it was unclear why such information would be a “security sensitivity.” BirminghamLive also fielded a question raised by customers about whether a real-time queue time tracker could return to the airport’s website. BHX’s response was: “The real-time tacker was an estimate of the pending status at the time. When construction work began, this facility was removed. We will review the availability of this feature once the construction work has been completed.”
