Birmingham City are not chasing Plymouth Argyle man Dan Scarr

Birmingham City are not targeting Plymouth Argyle centre-back Dan Scarr, a report from Birmingham Live has said.

Birmingham City will be aiming high for next season after a thoroughly disappointing 2023/24.

The Blues suffered a shock relegation and have now set themselves the task of going straight back into the Championship. Following confirmation that Tony Mowbray would not be staying, Chris Davies was appointed as the new boss following an extensive search.

The focus now turns to signing new faces and several players have already been linked.

One man rumored to have been on Birmingham City’s radar is centre-back Dan Scarr, who is currently on the books at Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle. However, new claims of these links have now emerged.

Birmingham Live state that Scarr is not currently being looked at by the Blues.

The 29-year-old was on the books at St. Andrew’s for two years from 2017 to 2019, but a reunion is not on the club’s agenda at this stage, the report states.

Who is this?

THE TEST STARTS!

Scarr’s position at Argyle

The last year has been a challenging one for Scarr at times, and as he enters the final year of his contract, it will be interesting to see if the door opens for him to head to pastures new.

The towering defender was instrumental in bringing Plymouth Argyle to the Championship, but as they battled Birmingham City for survival, Scarr lost his place in the team under Ian Foster.

He would claim his place under temporary manager Neil Dewsnip and his role could be on the mind of new boss Rooney. Scarr is a strong presence at the back and a real leader, so he could once again be an asset at Home Park.

If not, the door may be open for him to move on before Plymouth risk losing him for nothing this time next year.

Center backs on the radar?

While Scarr may not be a target for Birmingham City, it would not be a surprise if they are on the lookout for new options at the back this summer.

As loans wind down and offers expire, they will be left with just Dion Sanderson as their senior centre-back options as they are. That leaves a huge gap in Davies’ Blues squad, so expect a few to be targeted.

Someone with Scarr’s experience and pedigree would be of great value. As we touched on before, he is a League One title winner with Plymouth, so that could make him influential.

However, it doesn’t seem to be on the radar. It will be intriguing to see who Davies lines up with the back line sure to be an area of focus.
