Police cordon in force in Piccadilly Gardens – live updates

A police cordon is in place in Piccadilly Gardens following an incident this evening, June 25.

The cordon runs from outside Nandos to Travel Lodge and is opposite the 216 bus stop in the city centre.




The exact nature of the incident has not been confirmed. Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further information.

Pictures sent to Manchester Evening News shows that a section of pavement is isolated. An ambulance and police cars are also present.

Garbage, a hat and crutches remain in the cordon

A number of items left in the cordon include a hat and some crutches.

“There’s always something going on here”

A passer-by told the MEN: “There’s always something going on here.”

Eyewitnesses report seeing man beaten ‘very badly’

An eyewitness told the MEN: “Three or four boys were beating this boy – they beat him really badly.

“The police came in five minutes.”

Reports of a “fight” with a person rushed to hospital, MEN understands

The Manchester Evening News understands the incident involved a “fight” between two people. It is understood one person was rushed to hospital.

We are awaiting further information from Greater Manchester Police.

Two bus stops and isolated sidewalk – the road is still accessible

Cars and buses can drive along the road outside the cordon, but the sidewalk and the two bus stops are closed by the cordon.

Number of items thrown in the cordon

Nicole said a number of police cars were at the scene, as well as an ambulance.

She also said a number of items could also be seen on the floor within the cordon.
