A DJ threatened to find and “merk” his victim before fulfilling his promise.

Alexander Brady smashed the innocent man’s window with a hammer, leaving him too scared to visit the shop for a pint of milk. The squatter today, June 25, told a judge he would “do anything to withdraw his actions.”

Liverpool Crown Court heard on Tuesday that the 41-year-old and victim Fred Ryall were known to each other due to previous incidents of anti-social behaviour. At around 6am on November 30 last year, the complainant was walking his dog in the street when Brady approached him on his bicycle and said: “I’m going to find out where you live and I’m going to give you the money.”

Ian Criddle, prosecuting, said Mr Ryall was then at his home on Carlton Street in Vauxhall at about 9.30am on December 16 when he heard the sound of glass breaking. She then looked outside to see the defendant outside with his Alsatian dog and banging on his windows with a hammer while shouting: “I’m going to kill you.”

Brady, who was said to be holed up in a property on nearby Love Lane, was also caught on CCTV throwing the gun at the victim while filming from an upper floor. A dustbin was also taken from him when he was arrested.

In a statement which was read to the court on his behalf, Mr Ryall said: ‘Alexander Brady’s aggressive harassment followed by his psychotic hammer attack on my property has left me concerned and fearing for my safety in my own house and on the local streets. He threatened to kill me.

“It made me wary about walking at night. It was hard to feel safe even going for milk because the store is close to his normal squat.”

Brady, of no fixed address, has nine previous convictions for 18 offenses dating back to 2013, including assault and possession of a bladed article and offensive weapons in a public place. Jim Smith, defending, told the court: “This is a gentleman who deeply regrets his actions and the distress he has caused the complainant.

“He is someone who now sees through a sober lens the effect of his drinking behavior and the impact it can have on people. When he is released, he wants to make a deal with his family doctor and go to Alcoholics Anonymous so he can keep the alcohol. free of charge.

“He was addicted to alcohol and he was homeless, and that’s a dangerous cocktail. It will ensure that this does not happen again.”

Meanwhile, Brady read a letter to the judge during the hearing in which he said: “May I apologize for my terrible and dangerous actions. I regret what I did and would do anything to undo my actions.

“I would also like to apologize to Fred, the victim of my crimes. I hope I can get back to my normal life as soon as possible, both working in the music hall I’ve built over the last 10 years, and being a responsible and loving partner and father and looking after my dog.”

Brady admitted two counts of threatening behaviour, criminal damage and two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place. Appearing via video link to HMP Altcourse, he was jailed for nine months.

Sentencing, Recorder Karen Ridge told the independent disc jockey: “You will have no doubt that he was extremely intimidated and feared for his safety. He is now extremely cautious about the routes he takes when walking his dog and even feels scared to go to the local milk shop because of your actions.

“It’s nice to know you’re starting to face your substance abuse issues. I consider the regret and remorse you express and accept it to be genuine, given that your recent sobriety has made you see things in a different light and look. to your behavior.

“This was a sustained incident where you targeted Mr Ryall’s home. It was designed to cause fear of violence.”

Brady was also given a two-year serious violence reduction order, which will start after his release. He was banned from contacting Mr Ryall for five years under a restraining order and told to pay £32.95 compensation plus a victim surcharge.
