Boy, 17, arrested after rape near Leeds Corn Exchange

A boy has been arrested after a woman was raped near the Leeds Corn Exchange.

The incident happened overnight near the city center shopping destination of New Market Street on Friday, May 10. A 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the incident.



West Yorkshire Police are at the scene today as their investigation progresses. A cordon has been placed across Cloth Hall Street, which runs from the entrance to the Corn Exchange to Red’s True Barbecue. An officer stands guard to make sure no one enters the area.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Leeds Police are investigating following reports of a serious sexual offense on New Market Street in the city center last night.

“A 17-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the report and remains in police custody at this time. The female victim is supported by specially trained officers. A scene is in place and detectives from Leeds District Safeguarding Unit are continuing. to ask questions”.
