Arrested after a man was seriously injured in a ‘violent’ attack on Oxford Street bus

A 25-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after being assaulted on a double-decker bus in central London.

The victim suffered a serious head injury in the attack on a 94 bus on Oxford Street on Tuesday.

He was found with critical injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remained in critical condition on Friday.

Scotland Yard has confirmed that a 20-year-old man has been arrested in Lambeth on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was arrested in the early hours of Friday by detectives from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command as part of a pre-planned operation.

He was taken to a London police station where he remained in custody on Friday afternoon.

Police said the victim’s injuries were “the result of blunt force trauma.”

Oxford Street was cordoned off near John Lewis following the incident on Tuesday, with a 94 bus parked at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Michael Dougall, from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “This was a very serious, violent attack which has left a young man in hospital seriously ill.

“My officers have been busy with a number of inquiries since the attack and this has led to the arrest of a man this morning.

“I would like to thank those people on the bus who have already come forward but we are still appealing for those with information who have yet to speak to us to do so. This includes anyone who was driving along Oxford Circus or Regent Street with any dash cam footage, please check your footage.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD7103/28FEB.
