Baggage chaos at Heathrow Airport leaves tourists fuming

British Airways has apologized to passengers after a “temporary technical fault” disrupted its baggage system at Heathrow Airport. Many travelers departing from the west London airport were not allowed to have their checked bags on the plane, while some arriving faced long delays to retrieve their bags.

The PA news agency understands the problem started on Tuesday afternoon and was resolved by the end of the day. A British Airways spokesman said: “We apologize to those customers who were unable to travel with their bags due to a temporary technical fault beyond our control.

“This issue has been resolved and we have brought in additional colleagues to support our teams in returning bags to our customers as quickly as possible.”

The Express says people have been told to “go home” by the airline. It appears a problem with BA’s allocation system led to the boat landing without its cargo and created long waits for the remaining passengers to find their lost luggage throughout the night on Tuesday and Wednesday. Many passengers lingered around the terminal, expressing their displeasure at the poor communication.

One annoyed traveler took to social media to air his grievances: “Communication was so poor tonight, not great BA. I don’t have much hope of getting my bags soon.”

Another added: “Shamams at Heathrow airport no bags arriving. No info just told to go home. But I need my bag for a wedding tomorrow and you’re telling me 48 hours for my bag.”

British Airways has assured customers that today’s program at Terminal 5 will run smoothly, despite the technical failure the previous night.

In a statement to The Mirror, Heathrow Airport said: “We are supporting British Airways with a technical issue with their allocation system. We advise passengers to check with British Airways before traveling to the airport.
