Leeds United owe a significant amount of money in transfer fees this year, it has been revealed, with the 49ers looking to right the ship after relegation.

Promotion to the Premier League for Leeds can only come via the play-offs now, after finishing third behind Leicester and Ipswich, and such a turnaround would be huge for the club’s finances.

It is so obvious for relegated clubs that getting back into the top flight is vital, but Leeds have some financial concerns that may need a solution soon.

Leeds’ 22/23 finances were revealed last month, showing the club to be in a fairly stable position when it comes to PSR thresholds.

Clubs such as Leicester, Everton and Nottingham Forest have proven this season that the powers that be are not afraid to start cracking down with tangible sanctions.

However, it is not all smooth sailing for Leeds, with the transfer fees due being approximately staggering. 190 million poundswith only around £2m to come from other clubs.

Kieran Maguire tells how Leeds are sorting out transfer fees owed

Finance expert Kieran Maguire has now spoken about the club’s current predicament heading into the summer, with player sales likely to be a major helping hand in solving the cash flow problem.

The loan players who left in the summer could be how the 49ers bring in significant revenue to manage the finances, as Maguire spoke to Football Insider:

“Leeds United have a lot of players on loan this season which could cushion the blow of not being in the Premier League.

“So that’s something they’ll have to negotiate their way through next season.

“Leeds have a serious cash flow problem in terms of what they owe other clubs for previous signings so it will prevent them from spending big this summer unless they sell.

“But I think the 49ers are too big a brand not to give the club an adequate level of support, and they will know there will be a backlash if they fail to do so.”

The 49ers should have what it takes this summer

If we’re in the Premier League, that won’t be a problem for us – both in terms of selling players and reimbursing those fees owed.

Staying down is a major headache and you’d expect we’d have to sell a number of players, including some in the first team.

However, I don’t see these fees being owed as something that is totally crippling us going forward as they have been factored into our finances overall.
