Bayern Munich’s Thomas Tuchel addresses rumors he has held talks over replacing Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager.

The German giants announced in February that they would part ways with Tuchel at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Tuchel endured a tough campaign with the Bavarians, losing to RB Leipzig in the German Supercup, missing out on Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and exiting the DFB-Pokal to third-placed Saarbrucken.

The former Chelsea boss hoped he could still win a Champions League trophy before those dreams were dashed by Wednesday’s dramatic semi-final defeat by Real Madrid.

Tuchel is set to oversee Bayern’s first trophyless season since 2011-12 but remains a highly sought-after manager in European football.

Tuchel denies reports of Man United talks

A recent report claimed that Tuchel was leading a three-man shortlist to replace the Man United boss Erik ten Haag before the 2024-25 season.

It has been suggested that Man United have already held talks with Tuchel’s advisers to determine whether he would be interested in the Old Trafford manager’s job.

However, the German dismissed those rumors when speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s Bundesliga clash with Wolfsburg.

“There have been no talks with other clubs so far,” Tuchel told reporters at Saturday’s press conference. “This situation has been clear since February.

“It’s nothing I want to discuss publicly here and no decision has been made yet. I have to work it out with myself and my coaching staff. So this is not a completely selfish decision. That will happen in the next few weeks , with calm. .”

Ten Hag risks losing his job at Man United

With Tuchel set to leave at the end of the season, he would be available for a potential return to the Premier League.

However, it is currently unclear whether there will be a vacancy at Man United with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe a final decision has yet to be made on Erik ten Hag’s future.

The Dutchman has enjoyed a tumultuous Premier League campaign as his side collected 54 points from 35 games to leave them eighth and in danger of missing out on European qualification.

However, he could still win a major trophy before the curtain falls on the 2023-24 campaign, with Man United set to face rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final later this month.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his position, Ten Hag insisted he was not concerned by the speculation when he spoke to reporters ahead of Sunday’s crucial Premier League clash with title rivals Arsenal.
