Live updates as A46 collapse causes long delays near Leicester

There are long queues on the A46 north of Leicester this morning after a crash on the westbound carriageway. Leicester Traffic Control said one lane was closed, causing long delays.

They said in a post on X at 8.10am: “One lane blocked between Wanlip and Beaumont Leys. Congestion from Hobby Horse roundabout onto M1.”

By 8.30am Google Maps was showing about a mile of traffic from the Thurcaston area back to Syston and the Hobby Horse roundabout.

Inrix traffic service added: “One lane closed and very slow traffic due to accident on A46 westbound from Wanlip roundabout to A5630 Anstey Lane. Congestion to Hobby Horse Island”.

One driver told LeicestershireLive he had been stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic for the past 15 minutes.

Updates on this incident are below.

All lanes have been reopened

Traffic tracker INRIX reports that the closed lane has reopened this morning. There are said to be residual delays following the incident.

Queues start to stretch back onto the A46

The queues are getting longer and longer. The A46 is almost stationary back to the Hobby Horse roundabout and beyond. The A607 is also quite busy now.
