Sheffield Wednesday are targeting Duncan McGuire to be scouted by Torino

Sheffield Wednesday target Duncan McGuire is to be tracked by Torino at this summer’s Olympics, according to Tuttosport (via Tutto Mercato Web).

Sheffield Wednesday are on the lookout for a new striker this summer. The owls have been linked with one hand and I’m sure they will have a number of potential targets on their radar.

One man who is said to have remained on the club’s list of possible forward additions is Duncan McGuire. He was heavily linked in January but opted for Blackburn Rovers instead, only for the move to collapse.

He found form with Orlando City, scoring six goals in 16 MLS games. As a result, he is set to represent the United States at the Paris Olympics this summer.

And it looks like McGuire will have his eye on him throughout the tournament.

Reports from Italian outlet Tuttosport claim the Sheffield Wednesday target is ready to be tracked by Serie A side Torino during the Olympics as they weigh up his services. He might move after the Olympics.

Untouchable?

Sheffield Wednesday may have maintained an interest in McGuire, but with a top-flight Italian side apparently weighing up a move for his services, they may have to cross him off their target list.

There are of course very attractive factors for a move to Hillsborough. The Owls are a sizeable club with a fantastic ground and loyal supporters, they are also led by a top manager in Danny Rohl and are just one step below the Premier League.

However, Torino will almost certainly have more financial muscle than on Wednesday. Furthermore, they could offer McGuire a direct jump to top-flight football rather than the second tier.

It could make a deal for McGuire a difficult one, especially if he can draw attention at the Olympics.

Searching for a striker

It remains to be seen who walks through the door at Hillsborough, but a new talisman is high on their transfer priority list ahead of the new campaign.

The Owls need to replace the goals of loanee Ike Ugbo, who has been linked with a permanent move.

In the event that he cannot return, others have been looked at. Arsenal prospect Mika Biereth has also been mentioned as a target after his successful loan spells with Motherwell and Austrian side Sturm Graz.

It remains to be seen who Sheffield Wednesday face, but with Torino planning to scout McGuire, it is possible that their interest will put him out of reach for the Owls.
