UK Eurovision star Olly Alexander’s hidden health and famous ex

UK Eurovision star Olly Alexander will be watched by millions around the world as he performs his song Dizzy in tonight’s grand final. But what do we know about the star?

Here we look at his career as a musician and actor and his off-screen life, from his famous past to his health struggles. Olly, 33, was born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and rose to fame in the band Years and Years.

Olly took the music industry by storm in 2015 when his band Years and Years released their biggest hit single ‘King’ which went straight to number one in the UK and earned the band national recognition.

The talented performer is also an actor and has acted on stage, in films and on television. He is best known for his role as Ritchie Tozer in the critically acclaimed series It’s A Sin, which catapulted his acting career to new heights.

The Channel 4 drama, set against the backdrop of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, captivated audiences and won numerous awards, including a National Television Award and British Academy Television Craft Award. He is also known for his role as Jakob in the Channel 4 drama Skins.

He has also appeared in films – including portraying Prince August in the 2010 blockbuster ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ – and is also well-versed in theatre, including singing alongside legend Judi Dench in ‘Peter and Alice’ in the West End.

Who Is Olly Alexander’s Famous Ex?

Olly’s last known celebrity relationship was with Clean Bandit musician Neil Milan Amin-Smith in 2015. The couple split due to conflicting schedules in their music careers.

Reflecting on the end of the relationship with Attitude, Olly said: “We had less and less time together and the time we did spend together was such short periods that it put so much strain on our relationship” .

As of 2024, Olly is believed to be currently single.

Olly Alexander’s Hidden Health Struggles.

Olly has previously spoken about his battle with bulimia and the health scare it caused during his teenage years. In a 2021 interview with The Guardian, he described the condition as a coping mechanism for the challenges he faced, including his sexuality and his parents’ divorce.

He explained: “I was writing: don’t eat, don’t eat, don’t eat. Did he have a weight problem? I was a bit chubby in primary school, but no. It was something I could control. I felt very out of control the rest of the time. My whole life, I struggled with my sexuality, my parents were divorcing, and I wanted to punish myself.”

He said it continued “well into my 20s” but became less frequent, but revealed he was once hospitalized for an irregular heartbeat. He said: “I was taken to hospital with my mum because I had this irregular heartbeat which can happen with constant purging and it really scared me.

“I thought I had done something irreparable to my body and my mother was so upset. She couldn’t understand why her son was throwing up all the food she tried to give him. He found out because I hadn’t cleaned up. toilet properly.”
