Leeds United centre-back Diego Llorente is at the heart of a battle between Roma and Real Betis this summer as the La Liga outfit look to sign a permanent deal.

Sanctioning exits again for those who benefited from loan clauses last season is something that has been the main focus so far in Leeds’ summer transfer window.

Brenden Aaronson remains, while Jack Harrison has confirmed his exit from the club, while Marc Roca and Diego Llorente look set to follow soon.

Real Betis are chasing the Leeds double with Roca and Llorente

Reports in Spain claim that as well as Real Betis’ interest in signing Roca from Leeds after his solid 23/24 loan spell, they are also looking to do a deal for Llorente.

Llorente has spent the last 18 months on loan at Roma, where he has become a regular in the starting line-up despite this year’s management change, but their deadlock over a permanent deal has opened the door for others, namely Betis.

Estadio Deportivo have now added their perspective from Betis’ perspective, saying that while there is no imminent bid for Llorente, they are prepared to pounce on his situation.

Happy to have Aaronson back?

Roca’s agreement to stay at Sevilla comes at a reduced price due to negotiations favoring Betis, with Leeds taking a loss as a £4.2m sale looks imminent, but that will not be the case for Llorente.

Leeds are said to be taking a firmer stance with Roma and Betis over Llorente talks, however, are not in the same position of having to agree a reduced fee to see him leave, having verbally discussed a rate of 5 million euros (£4.2 million) during the season:

“At first, Roma have no intention of signing him due to Financial Fair Play issues and are in talks with Leeds to renegotiate the fee down.

“In this scenario, Betis remains on standby, having pressed the surroundings of the defender, in case there is no agreement between the British and Transalpini (Roma) to take the footballer in a similar way to Marc Roca, paying a lower transfer than that amount. for a centre-back who will turn 31 in August, but who fully convinces Manuel Pellegrini due to his experience and versatility in his area.”

Llorente will leave, but Leeds will not be pushed here

It’s no surprise that we have to sell Roca for a pretty cheap fee this summer, but the same won’t be the case for Llorente.

The club seem happy with the idea of parting ways with Llorente for just around £4.2m and that must be because it won’t hurt our PSR position badly.

He doesn’t have a future here and at least with two clubs interested we should see a deal done soon.
