Clotted cream maker Trewithen Dairy sold to German companies

A well-known Cornish cream maker has been acquired by a German business. Trewithen Dairy in the Glynn Valley has been sold to Ehrmann, one of Germany’s leading dairy companies. The sale will now mean Trewithen Dairy, near Liskeard, will expand its facilities to start making the cakes and puddings that its new parent company exports to the UK.

Bosses at Ehrmann said they now expect Trewithen Dairy to account for 15% of its global sales each year. They also said the 260 jobs at Trewithen would be secured for the future, while more jobs could be created to accommodate its £20m expansion plans.




Christian Ehrmann, chairman of Ehrmann SE, which employs 3,200 people worldwide, said: “We have enjoyed success in the UK over the past two years working with major supermarket chains to bring new dairy tastes to consumers. The acquisition is very significant as it opens up local production in the UK, allowing us to reduce our carbon footprint and guarantee the freshness of our products. By choosing Trewithen’s high quality dairy, we are delighted to bring German innovation to the UK’s finest dairy products.”

Ehrmann dairy products are sold in more than 75 countries worldwide from seven international production facilities and nine international sales offices, generating more than 1.1 billion euros each year.

Trewithen Dairy at Greymare Farm in the Glynn Valley was started and has been owned by the Clarke family since 1976. The dairy farmers switched to dairying there in 1994, sourcing milk, cream and more recently butter and yoghurt from local cows. sell in the UK.
