New Wakefield Trinity signing hits social media after criticism of Hull FC departure

Cam Scott is celebrating

New Wakefield Trinity signing Cam Scott has hit back at critics in a recent social media post following his move from Hull FC.

Playing in the second row this year, he looked to be one of the best performers in the struggling Black and White side.

The 24-year-old’s move was confirmed on Tuesday and he was handed a two-year contract with an option for a third.

He is the third Super League signing Trinity have confirmed ahead of 2025, following Catalan duo Tom Johnstone and Mike McMeeken.

On signing, Scott said: “I feel I’ve reached a point in my career where I needed something new and when Wakefield came along, the opportunity was too good to pass up.”

Following the news, some fans took to social media to speculate what he would be earning from his new deal, with one suggesting a £250,000-a-year contract with a £5,000 bonus.

Scott, however, wasn’t a fan of the comments, saying via Twitter: “I’ve never been one to do that, but after yesterday’s news I got a bit of backlash and a lot of unfair comments.

“What I’m paid is not known and for people to then jump on rumors of ‘what they’ve heard’ and then run to every social network to post their opinion of me as a person and a player is just baffling.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion, however if there is no truth to it and they have latched onto whatever they ‘heard’ and run with it, then that is just ridiculous and says more about them than it does me.

“Some of the numbers I’ve seen and what people have thought from other people’s posts are wild and if you’re going to run with what someone told you on Facebook or Twitter then that really says more about those individuals than about me.”

Following this post, he received support from fans and players alike.
