Leeds will only move for ‘excellent’ player if Crysencio Summerville or Willy Gnonto are sold this summer

Leeds United will know more about who they need to sign this summer once the futures of some key players are clarified.

The window has been open for nearly two weeks and Leeds are yet to make their first foray into the market when it comes to revenue.

Instead, much of the focus was on who might be in their way from Elland Road, but again, it was slow in that department too.

Jack Harrison is the only player so far to have secured an exit, although Marc Roca is expected to follow him imminently. As for last season’s squad members, it’s been quiet.

A host of players including Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto and Archie Gray have been linked with moves, but it would appear that offers have yet to be submitted.

The journalist shares a new update on Leeds’ interest in Liam Millar

As it stands, the only real position that stands out as needing immediate recruitment is back, following the return of Joe Rodon and Connor Roberts to their parent clubs.

However, in other areas, such as attack, there is no point in bringing in players until we know exactly who will be at Elland Road next term.

Leeds still have some of the best wide options in the entire division but are reportedly looking at FC Basel winger Liam Millar as he represents Canada at the Copa America under Jesse Marsch.

Millar is well known to Leeds after his two-match performances during a loan spell at Preston North End last season.

Leeds’ interest in Millar was first reported by the Athletic and now journalist Nancy Froston has shared a new update on that pursuit, suggesting that it depends a lot on what happens with Summerville and Gnonto.

Speaking to One Leeds Fan Channel, she said: “It will be one they look at, but if you don’t, say, sell Summerville or Gnonto, you don’t necessarily need to bring in a winger. We are talking in those terms where it will depend on what happens with the outputs.

“He is someone they are aware of, he fits the profile of a player who is young enough and has a lot of potential. I’d be interested to see what he does in a Leeds team vs a Preston team that has done well but had some rough parts of the season.

“I don’t know what kind of fee they (Basel) would go after, but with a year left on the contract, I don’t think it would be huge.”

Leeds could be left disappointed at Millar’s display for Canada

As mentioned, scouts from Leeds are in the United States to take a close look at Millar’s performances for Canada at the Copa America.

Canada were in action against Peru in the early hours of this morning and earned a crucial 1-0 win, although Leeds may have been left disappointed by Millar’s display.

The Canadian Press wrote: “Liam Millar – 6/10. Playing on the right wing instead of the left wing he occupied last time, Liam Millar was not as involved as he was against Argentina.

“He completed all eight passes, including a cross that led to a scoring opportunity, but for the most part he wasn’t involved often enough in the first half to have a very significant impact on the game.

“Millar was taken off at half-time as Jesse Marsch made a triple substitution, replaced by Jacob Shaffelburg.”
