Staines fire leaves one in hospital after ‘huge explosion’

One person has been rushed to hospital following a terrible fire in Staines. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service attended Elmsleigh Road in Staines-upon-Thames at around 12.30pm today (Wednesday 26 June) to reports of a major fire.

The fire was initially reported to have started in the former Tothill car park in Elmsleigh Road. But Spelthorne Borough Council confirmed the fire did not start there, Surrey Live reports.




The cause of the fire is still unknown. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service advised people to avoid the area and said there were several road closures including Thames Street, Riverside Gardens, Clarence Street and Staines Bridge.

Initial reports came in of a “huge explosion”, with plumes of smoke that could be seen as far away as Kingston. Crews from London Fire Brigade were drafted in to help due to the scale of the incident.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call this afternoon at around 12.30pm to a report of a fire at the former Tothill car park, Elmsleigh Road, Staines-upon-Thames. Crews remain on scene to fight the fire. Please avoid the area if possible and we ask residents to keep their windows closed.”
