Man arrested after scaling fence as police rush to scene

A man has been arrested after scaling a fence near Leeds Bradford Airport this afternoon.

The police detained the man, being drunk and disorderly.


West Yorkshire Police were called at 3.53pm today after a member of the public saw him climb the fence.

The ground was outside the perimeter of Leeds Bradford Airport.

A spokesman for the force said: “Police received a call from a member of the public reporting that a man had been seen climbing a fence near Leeds Bradford Airport.

“Officers attended the scene and a man was detained in a nearby field outside the airport perimeter on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

“The report was received today (June 26) at 3.53pm.”

It comes after police arrested a man at London City Airport last week after allegedly trying to breach security.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called at 6.45am last Friday following complaints about a man.

Several police vehicles were seen around the terminal.

Met engaged with the man until 9.30.

He was arrested on suspicion of breach of security and public offences.

The airport is located in the Royal Docks.

A spokesman for London City Airport said: “We are aware of an incident on (June 21) involving a person who the police were called to and have since detained.

“The airport is operating normally.”
