Stop sign offense prompts pursuit in Bradford, police said

Subaru driver charged with multiple charges after allegedly failing to stop at Canal and Simcoe roads Wednesday morning

Here’s a lesson on what not to do when you hear an emergency siren.

South Simcoe police are conducting stop sign enforcement at the intersection of Canal and Simcoe roads Wednesday morning.

Around 10:30 a.m., they say officers observed a Subaru traveling east that did not come to a complete stop.

A traffic stop was then attempted, but the vehicle continued eastbound.

“Police activated their emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the Subaru continued to drive,” said department spokeswoman Isabella Soligo.

After he tried to pull the car over twice more, the police initiated a pursuit. Additional units were called at 10:32 a.m. and the vehicle was successfully stopped.

The driver, a 20-year-old man from Bradford, was charged with failing to obey a stop sign, failing to stop when signaled to or requested to do so by a police officer and failing to surrender his licence.
