Coventry has ‘nothing to be proud of’, readers say as ‘best student city’

Readers have slammed the latest study of Coventry being ranked as the best student city in the Midlands. One said the city “is miserable now” and is “nothing but students”, while another said the student population had made Coventry “alive again”.

Coventry was ranked as the best student city according to the QS Best Student Cities 2025. The city was also listed among the top four best in the UK, alongside Manchester, London and Newcastle.




The ranking was based on a number of factors, from employer activity, desirability, student outlook, student mix and affordability. Coventry has been praised for its strong rating by graduate employers, thanks to its long history of ‘leadership in manufacturing and design’, with Coventry University one of the few institutions to offer a dedicated course in automotive design.

The rankings state there are “good job prospects for graduates” as Coventry ranks 80th in the world for “employer activity” with “affordable living and rent costs”. They also added that there is plenty for students to “see and do”, with the Warwick Arts Center being one of the largest in the UK and home to “performance spaces, galleries and a cinema”.

He added: “Today, the city offers a vibrant cultural scene with its fair share of bars, restaurants, cafes, shopping centers and various entertainment and music venues. Coventry is also known for being a major sporting centre. From football. rugby, ice hockey, netball, even if you’re not a sports fan, you’ll want to go and watch.”

One respondent to the QS student survey described the city as “very friendly and multicultural” and feels safe with low crime rates and “affordable income”. The ranking also stated that Coventry boasts “a wealth of jobs” for graduates to work in industries ranging from engineering, manufacturing and automotive, all of which are “on the lookout” for “talented and skilled graduates”. .
