Liverpool transfer news LIVE: Rayan Ait-Nouri ‘pole’, Kimmich ‘wants to move’, Nico Williams position

Virgil van Dijk has it all. But since his move to Liverpool, we haven’t seen much of him from dead ball situations.

The sight of him heading for a free-kick was relatively common at Celtic. But James Ward-Prowse won that battle at Southampton – although the midfielder revealed Van Dijk tried to take a few.

“It’s depressing,” Ward-Prowse admitted on Ben Foster’s podcast. “When Virgil arrived at Southampton you were in the gym after lunch doing leg weights, trying to get faster, trying to get stronger – but he had everything. He was going to the car with his laundry bag. (and say): “See you guys!”

“You’re out there grafting, trying to get better, but he had it all. (Of course) fast, strong and when he came to the club he tried to take a few free kicks as well. So I thought, “Oh, I’ve got some competition here.”
