Leeds United have Roma and Real Betis keen on signing Diego Llorente for next season, but the La Liga club are well placed to swoop in despite the centre-back having spent 18 months in the Italian capital.

Leeds’ transfer business so far has largely been on a housekeeping basis, sanctioning exits for those who are surplus to requirements or not welcome back at the club for next season.

Diego Llorente falls into that category, with his loan at Roma over and his situation unchanged: leaving Leeds for good with hope.

Real Betis ready to steal a march to Rome for Llorente

Spanish outlet Relevo have published a new update on the ongoing tug-of-war to land Llorente from Leeds in this summer window.

With Roma formulating a plan to sign him, Real Betis entered the equation this week as they look to add to their impending signing Marc Roca with another Spaniard from Leeds.

Betis will need to agree terms with Leeds to sign Llorente permanently, while their chances of convincing Leeds are boosted by the fact that Roma are not currently looking for a permanent transfer.

Happy to have Aaronson back?

They claim that Roma have submitted a bid to take Llorente back on loan for the 24/25 season, which opens the door for the La Liga side to make a more enticing approach to Leeds in the way of a bid.

The YEP said this week that a fee of around £4m for Llorente would be enough to avoid losing PSR.

Llorente should head to Betis in La Liga, benefits all sides

Leeds don’t have to bend over backwards to afford Llorente a loan move to Roma, so we should be more than happy to let him move to Betis.

It’s a move that not only benefits us with the immediate cash, but also benefits himself as he returns to La Liga, where his best football came before joining Leeds.

With Marc Roca also there, it’s a deal that could see him settle in fairly quickly, and the midfielder will testify that it’s a good environment to play football.
