The Sloop Inn in St Ives sold to American businessmen

A popular port pub has been sold to American businessmen. The Sloop Inn in St Ives has been owned and operated for many years by the Symons family as part of the Tremorna Inns Ltd group.

Tremorna Inns, which had a registered address in Peat House, Newham Road, Truro, has now changed hands after being acquired by a start-up, Brewco CWL Limited. The new firm, which was registered at Companies House on March 19, has an address at Eddington Way, Birchwood, an industrial estate in Warrington, which is located between Manchester and Liverpool.

According to Companies House, Brewco CWL Ltd has four directors: Alessandro Raul Cesan, a US citizen residing in Australia; Esteban Orlando Cesan, American citizen residing in the USA; Raul Elbio Cesan, an Argentine resident in America; and Wayne Thilwind, a Briton residing in the UK.

On Companies House, Scp Commercial Worldwide, which has an address in Monaco, is also listed as having invested in Brewco CWL Ltd. Alessandro and Esteban Cesan, as well as Scp Commercial Worldwide, are also listed as directors of the plant of St Ives beer in 2021. .

All four are now directors of Tremorna Inns Ltd and its subsidiary Symons Inns Ltd from June 7 after Brewco CWL acquired the Cornish business.

There have been unconfirmed rumors circulating in St Ives that the Sloop Inn, which dates back to 1312, has been sold for £10m. While a very prominent pub on the harbor front of one of Cornwall’s most popular tourist destinations, £10 million would seem steep for a single pub.

However, Tremorna Inns Ltd has several other assets including the Pendarves Arms in Camborne, Park House in Fish Street, St Ives which runs past the pub on the harbour, a car park behind the pub, a property on Park Lane in St Ives and three cottages on The Wharf, on the water’s edge.

On June 20, a relevant entity and person with significant control notice was filed at Companies House, confirming that Brewco CWL Ltd now owns Tremorna Inns and all of its assets. It reads: “Brewco CWL Ltd directly or indirectly owns 75% or more of the shares in the company (Tremorna Inns). The relevant legal entity has the right, directly or indirectly, to appoint or remove the majority of the board of directors of the company.

“The relevant legal entity (Brewco) owns, directly or indirectly, 75% or more of the voting rights of the company.” Other documents filed at Companies House show that Harry Maurice Symons and Henry Howard Symons are no longer directors of Tremorna Inns.

Although the Sloop Inn is still trading, there has been no indication yet of what will happen to it or its staff and the other assets now held by Brewco CWL Ltd and what plans it may have for the future.
