SCDSB is recognized as one of the most energy efficient school boards

For the second year in a row, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) has been recognized by the Climate Challenge Network as the 10th most efficient school board in Ontario in the 2024 Best Energy Performing School Boards Report.

In addition, SCDSB was the most energy efficient school board with over 100 schools in the province.

This year’s report looked at data from the 2021-22 school year. These results were achieved through a systematic approach to identify opportunities to reduce the energy consumption of SCDSB schools while optimizing occupant comfort and indoor air quality.

SCDSB has implemented strategies to optimize ventilation and filtration system performance to help reduce the risk of transmission, improve the functionality of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, and improve indoor air quality. Some of these strategies include:

• complete system-wide retrofitting of all existing HVAC equipment to optimize air circulation
• inspecting, testing and analyzing airflows and static pressures of air handling systems and adjusting controls accordingly to optimize ventilation system performance
• modifying the programming of the building automation system to provide additional outside air during periods of occupancy and to increase equipment run time to provide additional air exchange and dilution
